Denim PV SS20 : Key Takeouts

Last week Denim Premier Vision hit London for the first time, taking up space in East London’s Truman brewery. Here’s our top 5 take-outs from the two days that East London turned blue.

TIE DYE
One of the most widespread messages across forums and mills was tie-dye. Dark indigo with bold bleach patterns looked striking, whilst the softer and more subtle tones are also relevant for a more feminine take on the trend.

KEEP IT LIGHT
Light fabric dominated the show, there was a sense of weightlessness with light soft tones and fluidity. Pretty pale blue washes in various weights and weaves felt fresh and modern. Dense twill constructions were delivered in lighter weights giving drape and a soft handle. Super lightweight fabrications were almost sheer with a featherlight essence. Twills looked super soft and lightweight in open weave styles and styled into oversized silhouettes and billowing shapes.

ACID BRIGHTS
A real 90’s nostalgia resounded throughout the show. Vibrant colours in acidic bright tones were shown in acid washes and over-dyed techniques. Coloured denim is still key to commercial summer denim stories and particularly for the youth market as a great updated to this season's flat coloured denim.

SHINE
An 80s feel compliments the harder 90s inspired denim stories. Metallic shimmer finishes give soft and subtle looks. Lurex yarns have been added to dark rinse indigos creating a shimmery fleck in the fabrics.

UTILITY
Utility feels new and modern with 3D shapes and minimal stitch details, commonly delivered in clean rinse or raw washes. New life is brought to workwear silhouettes and are given acid wash makeovers. Traditional carpenters pockets and boiler suit silhouettes also continuing into SS20.

Sustainability was such a hot topic over Denim PV SS20, with a devoted forum for innovation and a full day dedicated to workshops and discussions on circular manufacturing -  it's certainly one of the most talked about topics in the denim world.
More to follow on this in the New Year!
