NYFW Key Themes SS19

New York Fashion Week kick starts the fashion month, introducing key themes for the SS19 season. New York provided a colourful and bold start to SS19 with a refreshed pastel tones, a dip into 60's print archives and a retake on feminine utility.

Here are BDA London's three key takeaways from New York Fashion Week...

Hyper Functional Utility

Traditional utilitarian styles continue on the catwalks, with revitalised utility tones of brown, green and grey as well as seasonal ruching, drawstring ties and coated detail. The slouchy silhouettes used coated and worn in leathers and cotton twill fabrications.

Glam Rodeo

Balloon sleeve blouses, fringed shirts and western boots re-affirmed the western rodeo theme at NYFW. Identifiable aesthetics of western buckles, brown and beige tones and fringing sit amongst seasonal updates and statements of bright blue and highly charged embroidery from Anna Sui and Coach 1941.

60's Vibes

Short and long balloon sleeves, tie neck detailing and colour co-ords injected the 1960's spirit into the SS19 catwalk.

Paisley print returns with bold 60's inspired colour palettes. Brown, yellow and pink combinations offer a refreshed visual for summer across 60's silhouette knits and wovens.
